What the cardiac rehabilitation service includes
The training is carried out under a control team and includes:
- Electrocardiographic monitoring of each patient supervised by a cardiologist.
- Sessions led by a physiotherapist.
- Small groups conveniently classified by the stress test.
- Equipment to solve any potential emergency.
Dynamic relaxation techniques and group psychotherapy are used, which, when carried out during the sessions, are an excellent means of combating anxiety and depression.
This programme, aimed at patients and their families, is dedicated to risk factors that need to be corrected and that have an impact on coronary heart disease.
Frequently asked questions
Cardiac prevention and rehabilitation programmes are intended for patients in one of the following clinical situations:
- Stable angina pectoris. Recent or old myocardial infarction (uncomplicated).
- Post-coronary surgery (including by-pass).
- Post-coronary angioplasty.
- Heart valve disease.
- Heart transplant.
- Patients who have a pacemaker.
The Cardiac rehabilitation service will be provided in an Occident associated centre.
If, because of your place of residence or for any other reason, you cannot travel, rehabilitation will be provided through a remote cardiac rehabilitation programme at your home.
You can start cardiac rehabilitation from six weeks after the coronary event, once you have left hospital and are in a clinically acceptable situation.

You can choose and/or change the group that best suits you, from the following three:
- Group I: rehabilitation – 3 sessions per week. Controlled comprehensive cardiac rehabilitation programme at the agreed centre for a total duration of 4 months.
- Group II: Rehabilitation – 1-2 sessions per week. Controlled comprehensive cardiac rehabilitation programme at the agreed centre for a total duration of 6-9 months.
- Group III: comprehensive cardiac rehabilitation supervised by the agreed centre at home with regular check-ups for a total duration of 12 months.
